possibly part of a pistol grip? what is it?

On my first dig I found this piece appears to have sergeant bars and in the shape of a dog tag. Has what appears to be a rivet in it. Believe it's possibly part of a pistol grip.

From the description it does not sound like it would be part of a pistol grip. An image would help immeasureably.

And somewhere, there is someone that will put anything you like on the grip panels of a 1911.
