A construction crew may have discovered a piece of Pottsville history dating back to the Civil War era while replacing a porch Tuesday on Mahantongo Street.
When removing the porch boards, two employees from Re-Builders Plus, Bloomsburg, stumbled across what seemed to be a stone room with a tunnel, probably leading out to the street. The owner of the home at 603 Mahantongo St., John Morrison, 80, said he hired the company to replace the floor and the three large wooden columns, one of which collapsed last year. Morrison said he always thought it was just stone under his porch
