I found this today during my lunch break. I have permission to hunt the yard of an old store. Long ago closed for business. I only have about 20 min. invested in this spot so I am very excited to see what my come out of the ground.

Almost thrown away as trash.... Cleaned of it looks like the bottom half of a womans dress. The face is copper and the rest is lead... I think. Some sort of printing die ?

I think this is probably a type of printing plate called an electrotype. After a master "cut" (plate) is prepared, a wax cast is made of it, then coated with graphite and electroplated with copper. Once a thin copper shell is formed, it's backed with a lead-like alloy for added strength and durability. Sometimes, if the electrotype will be heavily used, the copper shell is nickel plated.
