Been looking for some little projects to do to help pass the boring summer. My first one was to do some modifications to one of my old sifters which should help save a little time and effort on the next pit dig. Basically, I built a separate base out of 2x2s to set the existing framed screen on, and then connected it with 2 hinges and added a handle and a latch to keep it secure while transporting. It only cost me less than $10 in materials and a little over an hour of fabrication time. Normally during the sifting process the screen quickly gets clogged up with debris which forces you to stop frequently, lift up the entire sifter, and dump it off to the side. Now I can do all that with one quick motion without having to move. And BTW - the extensions on either side of the sifter are to allow spanning a large hole which is what I usually end up with, and this gives you a lot more flexibility. I guess everyone has their own way to do things, but this method work bests for me during excavation of some of the massive pits I can get into. Hope everyone enjoys the long weekend.
