Quantico area

I'm from Michigan and I may be in Quantico for a while coming up soon. Does anyone around there metal detect? I was wondering if there are any good old spots within driving distance that I could hit on weekends?

Is MDing permitted on base? If so, I would expect some colonial and CW era finds in the more remote areas. If you can detect, maybe I can point you to some potential spots.

There were Confederate artillery installations at Cockpit Point. Possum Point, and a couple other points just north of Quantico. They were used to blackade the Potomac in the ealry days of the Civil War. I have no idea who owns the property or if they've been detected over the years (probably), but the locations of the batteries can be found in the Library of Congress maps on-line.

There are several guys on here with permission in good CW areas. But most tend to guard their spots like Fort Knox.
