There was a guy (think his handle was "Digger"? Who actually was putting out a book on the use of the QXT, a while back and he also had some really great posts on the White's forum and others, so look for him on some of the better forums. Here's what I know to do with it, to get the best depth: Works great on my QXT Pro, First ground balance the machine in relic/prospecting (check ground first, must be target free!) ground balance machine by raising, lowering the search coil, until there is no change in threshold. Next turn off discrimination, accept all zones, one through eight. Turn on VCO (voltage controlled oscillator) turn off noise reduction (biggest depth killer on this machine!) Recently, I speeded up my sat (self adjusting threshold) because my ground is very mineralized, here in Oregon (magnetic, volcanic rock!) and it works awesome, real fast threshold recovery now! May not work on your ground. Experiment with it.
Because you balanced in relic/prospecting, most of your settings will be done for you already. You can still adjust them, if you feel the need, such as volume, threshold, sensitivity, (sens, start at 16 go up until unstable, (false signals, ground noise, false targets, etc.) back off one or two clicks until stable and search. Volume, set to your ears, threshold minimal sound, just at the edge of your hearing. etc.
Even though you are not using discrimination, you will still have the benefit of seeing the zone numbers, (example 4) in parentheses on the left side of screen. The machine will also give you possible targets, like Nickel/Ring (the first target listed is the most likely) and also will give you an indication of the target size and depth on the scrolling dashes, just below. I know this post is from 2014, but figured anyone can use the advice given and you may still be listening yourself, so worth a try? Good luck! Big Red
