Went back to the spot where I found the 1809 bust cap half in feb for a quick hunt. Buzzed around a bit around the spot I found the coin but came up with nothing but trash so I went around a hill lined with some stone walls nearby for a few hours. Came up with a flat button, a small buckle, some kind of horse racing medallion and an eagle insignia that looks almost identical to an 1830's US Dragoon insignia/cap plate. Almost didn't dig it since the singnal while good, was a bit broken but was good enough to warrant a look, and I'm definitely glad I did.

Love that eagle!!

Iowa Dale

LOOKS LIKE A FLAG STAFF RELIC

Cool stuff. The horse medallion is a nice old watch fob... if I had to guess, maybe 1920’s?

The eagle is way too good!!! I hope someone can identify it. Got a feeling it might be good....

Yeap & your best find was a choppy signal, I hope you remember that. Many of my very best finds have been what I call an iffy signal. I only don't dig iron nails when there are too many (don't have time) & I'm 100% sure. You're best clearing everything on your best sites.

Thanks guys, I added the pic of an actual 1833 dragoon cap plate which to me looks really close other than the color, but might be silver coating/wash that eroded away, probably a bit obsure to get a positive ID but interesting nontheless. Totally agree Crusader, even after digging trash all day it always pains me to walk away from a decent but choppy signal, I'm always worried it's a good target on a weird angle or right next to a square nail etc.

a terrific day you had again . I really like the eagle emblem.

I think you are spot on with that 1830's cap plate. That is awesome!
