"R"--Possible British Regimental Insignia?
This thread is posted in "What Is It" also. I know the moderators will move it, but thought it might get more exposure here. Greatly resembles the "R" insignias on British equipment and uniforms from The Revolutionary War. Was found in what we call--"the button field" where DigginitRTB and I hunt. Well made and measuring 1-3/8" square EXACTLY at it's widest points. Gold gilted and weighing 15 grams so it is actually quite heavy. On the back you can see 3,(possibly 4) places where it was attached to something. It's all one piece and nothing else was attached to it. Was found about 10-12" down in this field. I am in a place where there was Revolutionary War activity, as some of you may know. I'm wondering if it was a cartridge box insignia, or a hat insignia, as some hat insignias had a "G" and "R" seperated on them. Rich also found what appears to be part of the links to a sword hanger in the same spot. I would like him to post this item later. Any help is appreciated. Thanks HOGGE
