This past week has been rainy humid and hot The bugs in the woods have decided it is time to eat and I am on the menu .At least one of those days it must have been at a reduced price because even with bug spray I was getting eaten up . . This is on the property that I recently found a fair number of horse and horse harness items. . I only had a short amount of time and rather then get chewed up by the deer flies I thought I would check around the outskirts of the house . Within a few minutes I was digging and uncover this old rail tie plate . I was within about 40 yards of the house .It was down about 8 inches and while digging I was finding a lot of gravel that would be used as a base for a driveway of rail way base . If a rail line was located there years ago I think I might just do some more checking nearer to the building this summer Less bugs ,poison tree roots and distance to walk . I know from old pictures there where 3 farmhouse in the same area .I need to talk to my relative that lives there now and get more info .Is there anyway to tell how old the rr plate is ? With all my experience as a heavy equipment operator, I would say this from a dozer or excavator track.

BTW, I really like pic #2.

I will defer to No Gold's assessment, because it is unlike any rail plate that I've ever seen.

Thanks and good point .It did not look like a rr plate to me either but thought what else could it be . I should have had a dozer and operator to put up my rock wall .After more than 3 years in progress I might get it finished this year

Congrats on the unusual find. I worked for NYC Transit for 26 1/2 years. That ain't no RR tie plate, but I can see how it could fool you.

I like old covered up driveways...

Nice!! Congrats!!

Nice find and very good job on the wall, congrats! :occasion14:
