This was a really cool acquisition of mine. Recovered in Warren County Mississippi, this solid cast iron ball weighs 1 pound, and measure 1.95 inches in diameter, matching the requirements for a one pounder cannon ball. I only know of one cannon off the top of my head to have fired projectiles like these, and that is the British Falconet, though I'm sure there were others. Because of its find location, I suspect that it came from a river boat with war surplus cannon to protect themselves from Indians or such. I am interested in selling it though, because I've always wanted a Hotchkiss shell, so if anybody want's it, let me know.
