Ray proof boots. have you heard of...............

Shuffle your feet and you will not need them. A sting ray will only sting you if you step on it. You would look cool on the beach in those boots though.

What happens if your pushed by a wave or stumble? Do you never step backwards while using your scoop?

The swinging of a detector, dragging a scoop, shuffling along, and digging, is generally enough activity to spook up any rays in your immediate vicinity. They like the quiet. I never move in the water without the coil working ahead of me, even when wading out to my 'spots'.

The one time I stepped on a ray (hurt like the dickens too) was when I was simply walking along in knee deep water towards a shoal.

I guess it just depends on what floats your boat.

I just ordered a pair. Nice people. The web site is not working for orders so call the number. they are also not equipt to take payment so what they do is send the guards with an invoice trusting you to send the $$ Kind of hard to beat a company that works like that. The guy runs an oil co and developed these for the guys that work for him in Texas snakes/rays in the water I should have them by weeks end   I figure $60.00 is worth not having to put up with the grief of getting hit and then not being able to hunt for a month or 2

Please let us know what you think of them after delivery and use. I'm 95% sold on these.
The booties will be next.

Thanks.

if you drag your feet, the rays will move away.
Long time ago, while fishing at night I stepped on something soft and large, it moved away without attacking me.
It scared the hell out of me.

Here is the way I look at it: I am in the water 3-4-5 times a week. for 3-4-5 hours at a time. Now eventually the law of averages is going to kick in and I will get hit. Now depending on where you get hit it can vary from not too serious to very serious -either way it hurts like a MOTHER. Since I am highly allergic to tetanus I do not want to take the chance or get put out of commission for a few weeks to a couple of months and let all the gold rings and chains get found by you guys :icon_biggrin: :icon_biggrin: :icon_biggrin:

Here is my current set-up, I didn't think the boots alone were enough

I guess in Manhattan you might need it but not for the stingrays :tongue3:

I bought a pair of Fore everlast reef boots, they are terribly uncomfortable, they have worn the skin off just up above my heels on both feet. Will try wearing socks. I have been stung twice in three weeks time and I shuffle my feet and make sure my detector is rubbing the bottom. I'am in the water 5 to 6 hrs per day. If you want to take a chance that's up to you, I also have a pair of ray-gaurds ordered also.

the problem with the rays an hunting is the digging bring the rays in close, last year I know I step on at least 2 rays, never got the barb thou. Both times while I was digging a target,I even hit 1 of them with my scoop to scare it away an it just made a circle an came right back to were I was digging, loooking for a free meal.MY best friend step on 0ne years ago while fishing an it went right thru his tennis shoes, said it felt like he steped on a knife that was heated to cherry red.
