It measures a little over 2 1/2 inches long by right at an inch wide and it too is made of iron.
Haven't finished cleaning it yet, but it says "BURNS" on it.

Re: I recovered this tag from the same old road bed as I found the other iron plate.

Was there a railway station or bus station anywhere close? These look a lot like luggage tags.

No, they came from an old road bed that is grown over. The closest depot was probably 5 miles away, but it is gone, too.

Do you think it could be a coffin tag? Breezie

Kinda looks like a mail box or door name plate. Tony

The style looks very similar to the larger plate you have so I'd bet they probably came from the same place.
Could be this one was mounted on one of those old fashion, long, triangular name plates that sat on peoples desks to let you know who you were talking to. (Fits the school idea) I remember those name plates on our principal's desk...back in the 60's.

Maybe you could change your search criteria to iron name plate mfgr.'s of maybe the early 1930's or so....in the K.C. area.

Could be someone took those as mementos from where ever they worked when they moved.

Why would there be an address on a coffin tag? Not like he would be getting mail, ;D.
