I was given the 1898 Morgan today. For some reason it doesn’t look real. It’s lighter than the 1878 and the rim looks like it’s been pressed. Maybe it’s had a rough life but I thought maybe someone can let me know. I like collecting them but I’m not complaining it was free! Looks like it was cast.

Not only is it a fake, it is a bad fake.

Time for more coffee.

Agreed. You can tell by looking at it, that its not even the same circumference as the real one.

Probably a souvenir shop item

Sorry RudyT, but I believe it is a fake or counterfeit coin.

man, that fake is so fake it even looks fake

I got it from a pawn shop I always go to to see if they have any old coins. When they showed it to me I told them it was fake. They asked me wI wanted it and I said sure. Thanks for the inputs. Take care

They knew it was fake or wouldn't have given it away.....

It's very easy to tell that one is fake,I collect Morgans ,and have found some also .SO THAT ONE IS A BUMMER.

Well, if it's an old fake it might be worth something.

Just a guess, but I do not believe that fake to be old. Except for the date, it appears identical to fakes I obtained several years ago, from a Chinese eBay seller, when I was putting together an extensive set of fake Morgan’s. I believe it to be molded, and under 20 years ago.

Past time for more coffee.
