Chapters from Illinois History by Edward G. Mason, published by Herbert, Stone & Company. (C) MDCCCCI. (1901)
"The ship St. Pierre, in which were sent from France more than twenty thousand francs' worth of merchandise for him, had foundered in the Gulf of St. Lawrence, and all the cargo was lost..." This was a shipment of supplies for La Salle who in the mid to late 1700's was running around the midwest (Illinois, Wisconsin and Michigan).
I don't research shipwrecks and underwater treasure, etc... So, thought I would throw this out. Just read it, and thought I would put it out there.
