I am looking to buy one of these detectors in the next few days. However, I cannot decide which one to buy! I live in Northern Virginia and mainly hunt old coins and some relics. I sold my MXT Pro when I moved here so I am looking for a new machine. I do not do any water hunting, but want the best coin shooter I can find. So what do you guys think? Given the choices listed in my post title, what would you buy and why?

1) It has the standard mode, similar to an ACE 250 and is great for beginners, coin & jewellery hunting yet is deep and sensitive to gold.

2) It has the PRO mode, which is one of the deepest metal detectors (single frequency) available today. It meets and beats some detectors costing 3 x as much and was designed to find deep relics, yet with the 15kHz operating frequency, remains very sensitive to gold targets.

3) It is also water proof to 10 feet, so a quick accidental drop in the water or sudden rain will still keep you in the game. And, as a water machine, opens up a new style of detecting and territory in case you were ever interested without buying another water machine.

4) It's made in USA and costs less then half the price of some of the most expensive single frequency metal detectors which are restricted to land hunting only on non-rainy days.

And it's an excellent coin and relic hunter too!

Not sure what part of Northern Virginia you're in, but if you are in the highly mineralized red dirt of Culpeper and surrounding areas, you need a detector that has an automatic ground balance. I know for relic hunting around Culpeper, the Tesoro isn't a detector of choice. I've hunted there with an White's XLT and a AT-Pro. The AT-Pro ran stable with sensitivity turned up, I ended up digging two bullets and 1976 half at about 8 inches. The White's also did well because of automatic ground balancing. I know the White's MXT, DFX and TDIs are all prefered over the Tesoro detectors for relic hunting in Northern Virginia.

I am in Ashburn, VA. Well, I live in Ashburn and work in Fairfax. Seeing that I just moved here, I have not had the chance to detect here so am not to familiar with the soil.

War as John said, I REALLY like the AT Pro. If you have any questions or need pricing holler at me. Love to help you! Thanks, Bart

AT PRO is awesome........Just curious......Reason you sold the MXT PRO, didn't like it?.....

I have had a deleon, and I have a ace 350 along with others,, I want to say my opinion , the deleon is a hot hot machine, I regret that I had to sell it. very nice light weight. deep seeking also.
as for the AT pro I cant say anything to compare. I currently have not used my ace 350 enough to know it. but it is a good machine. as for ground minerals and such, I would suggest you call tesoro tech by the name of rusty and I know he can and will give you a huge amount of info based an actual experience priceless FREE infomation. It is your money spend it wisely call the techs and talk to them, they are happy to help

Warshrike,

I owned a 350 and if that's any clue how the AT Pro handles, you absolutely must buy the small sniper coil if you plan on hunting places with moderate to heavy trash (and that's most of the places I hunt). In those environments that 11" DD coil goes absolutely insane. My TID screen was jumping all over the place.

I'd use that 11" coil on beaches and open fields, but in those parks and similar areas, it's the sniper coil only. JMHO.
