I have been interested in hunting a local city park for some time in the town I work in. Its a small community of about 2500 people. I drive by it everyday during lunch and tell my wife that I want to hunt it. Located at the park are the little league baseball fields also. I figured I could hunt the place with no problem since the rules didn't mention detecting. I do not like confrontation so I felt I needed to get permission.
I went to the city website and emailed the city manager. He quickly emailed back and heres what he said
"We have no ordinance against metal detecting at the city park or on the baseball fields. We would ask that the baseball fields, not be dug up. ENJOY AND HAPPY HUNTING."

Now that I have his blessing and permission I have no problem with detecting.

I can't wait till I get a half decent days worth of weather.

Any key spots to look while I'm there?

Hats off to you for having the nerve to ask! I'm still too self conscious to hunt near where I live but it makes me happy when others don't feel that way. I would hunt where cars are usually parked and under bleachers. If there is a playground area hunt there. My friend and I found a humongous woodchip park that we're going to hunt as soon as the kids can play outside.

I am the same way. I hate to ask someone to dig up their yard. I guess its fear of rejection but I reckon that comes with the territory. I am slowly getting better at even hunting out in public. I feel like everyone is watching me.

There is a playground with woodchips. I will take my 5 year old and let him play while I search the area. I may try it this weekend.
