Hi;

My Father passed away recently and he had some 1oz gold Kruggerands with date ranges of 1975-1983. I contacted a nearby coin dealer who offered me roughly $50 below the current gold bullion market prices per oz for each coin.

Just learning about this so am I correct in assuming that Kruggerands are just a convenient method to form gold for purchase/sale other than bars?

You should accept that offer. You might get a price higher than melt from a collector just because of their age, and someone looking for a specific date. But, there really isn't a large market of collectors putting together a date set. If you did sell it on eBay at say $100 over melt (wishful thinking), you would then lose that margin in paying eBay fees. The dealer will need to make some money so $50 below market spot price is a fair deal.

I agree with Diver Down...….$50 below melt for a 1 oz. Kruggerand is a fair offer.

50 bucks under spot for gold Rand, you could do better selling them online. Look them up, you already know what they are worth on spot.

I would auction them online with a reserve
