It's was too hot to attempt front-yard hunting in New York today, or at least it would have been miserable, so I opted to explore a section of woods that's been bothering me for awhile. In the 1800's maps there was a road through this small patch and vague marked buildings, but no property owners or names. After some bushwhacking and traversing some gullies I found the roadbed and almost immediately large stone foundations built into the side of the hill. I'm kicking myself for not bringing the good camera, and my cell phone wasn't able to get clear photos with the low light and foliage, but there are at least four foundations in a series and probably more further down.

This was strictly reconnaissance so I didn't bring my detector, but a rain washout exposed a trash dump and the broken glass fragments seemed unusual so I took a handful with me. I'm not nearly as well versed in glass dating so I was hoping some of you more experienced bottle types could give me some guidance on approximate dates.

The glass is very thick and there's no sign of mold seams or letter stamps on the bottoms. The one bottle with lettering is fragmented but says "& Dublin" The lock plate is brass and just happened to have been exposed as well. All-in-all it looks promising though, and hopefully the detector can pull up even more relics on the return trip!

SOME BODY DONE FOUND A HONEY HOLE, NICE SHERDS.

Not a glass expert but, know enough to take my detector back to that spot!:hello: Nice little recon and gathering of some cool old evidence. Good luck on the return trip.:icon_thumright:

You got yourself a soda pop, neck/ lip off a medicine, and a turn mold whiskey/wine bottle. For dating the glass I would say late 1870-1890 range for the ones I mentioned.

cool that you have found a dumpsite .. hopefully there will be some good stuff .. in there

You and everyone on this site KNOWS you will be going back with detector and other gear, how could any of us not. Rare opportunity. WOW.

Good eye! Your on a hot trail! Let us know how you do. Good luck on your new site!
