Fisher Impulse AQ - a new pulse metal detector with metal discrimination! (New 2019, first photos!) BY DETECTORIST · 03/12/2019

Yes, friends, it happened! Fisher Lab has announced its new product - the Fisher Impulse AQ metal detector! A fundamentally new development and, it seems, a revolutionary device in the world of metal detectors. It was not possible to test much of the novelty, it was hidden at the Fisher Lab stand at IWA Outdoors 2019. Fishers do not like to shout much, but this is what I found out:

1. The novelty is a pulse device, but with discrimination of ferrous metal and gold. Designed specifically to find gold jewelry and small gold chains and earrings. Since this is a pulse device, it will work without problems on any beaches.

2. So far, the metal detector is at the final tests stage, the appearance and some characteristics may change.

3. The metal detector has several search modes - you can shift the detection of the conductivity of metals, for example: you can move the detection towards poorly conducted metals (fine gold) and at the same time eliminate highly conductive targets (large coins of silver and copper), and vice versa - look for large targets and cut off weakly conductive.

4. Tonality: in the “all metals” mode - one tone, then there is the “2 tones” mode and the “mute” mode.

5. The device is assembled from high-strength components, it can be seen through the cable thickness, and through a capacious battery, along the coil connector (the largest connector of all seen!) The metal detector is waterproof up to 1 meter - work up to your neck and lift gold just right.

6. Unusual and mounting the coil to the rod, also a novelty, not seen before.

7. Battery life up to 10 hours. You can connect a larger battery and increase the operating time up to 20 hours.

8. Yes, there is no screen on the device. And why is the screen needed? All the necessary settings are there - volume, threshold tone, iron mask, saturation mode. You can change modes, check the battery level, cut off the noise.

9. Pulse devices have always had a problem - no discrimination. Now the problem is solved and this means that you can walk in all places as if not knocked out.

10. Price. In the region of 2100-2500 US dollars. New technologies cost money, yes, but they also bring an advantage over all other metal detectors.

11. Soon there will be models for searching for gold nuggets, as well as for searching for coins and relics.

12. To the touch the weight is about 1.6-1.8 kg, the balancing is not bad, the device does not pull towards the coil. My first testing showed that the trash and other targets cut off the sound with a bang, and the gold ring on the finger is very beautiful and pleasant in all positions of the ring! Such a signal is not to be confused with anything. Well, the first tests will show, the first impression is very pleasant and interesting, waiting for more news! Video on the metal detector will be very soon, wait!

Thanks Rick for the research/info and keeping us up to date on the project, glad we can see it's near.

Very cool to get this update! Thanks Rick! When you get a test machine, remember to come over and give it a workout in our black sand. :icon_thumleft: A couple of questions.....how big is the search coil? is it easily swapped with a different one? The description mentions it's waterproof to 1 meter.....really? Maybe I can search up to my chin if I'm only 3 feet tall! :laughing7:. Hopefully that's a typo and it can be used under deeper water.

12” coil I think. 1 meter is for the control box - coil is good for more. The coil has a waterproof connector so could be swapped if another one is produced by Fisher.

awesome looking machine i cant wait to get my hands on 1 thanks rick so my question everyone says its deeper than the TDI pro is that true? thanks again Mark

Might make a lot of machines and obsolete. Be wise and test drive one before you buy it, my advice with all machines.

I have good reason to believe that it is deeper than the TDI, but the facts will be clear once it is released and folks can see for themselves.

Can't wait for the coin version. Been a long wait for sure. Been digging many clad quarters to help fund the new Fisher offering!

$2100-2500? I will keep my Equinox thanks.

Garrett ATX was suppose to have discrimination too but for me it never worked on my beach testing.

The iron tone/mute on the AQ works fine to nearly full detecting depth on the AQ. In the all metal position it detects a bit deeper. I have used the AQ briefly at Coronado beach in San Diego and demonstrated that to my own satisfaction.

I owned and ATX and agree with Treasure_Hunter about that machine’s ferrous discrimination limits.

Since this ferrous ID feature of the AQ is one of its major attractions, I expect we will see demonstrations of it soon.

Cool but that panel may be a lot of drag in the water. Do you really need to look at the knobs all the time?

I would have to move East to try justifying the cost lol

Thanks for the update. Strange strategy of Fisher to release a teaser in Russia?? Been a long wait . Handle looks like F75. The Panel appears to be on the large size. Looks sort of impossible to cover the control panel. Hope they are wrong about the price. Wonder if they will re badge it as BH or Teknetics?

I just bought a new TDI and have a single spot it's good for. Ssoooo. Probably not in the market. At least until it's out 12 months and all the gremlins have been worked out of it, just like with any new brand or model. PLUS I'll have to drive somewhere to test it out. I don't buy sight unseen anymore. It's kind of like Goldilocks and the three bears. Not sure if I'm Goldilocks or one of the bears.

Today it's raining worse than a double bladdered cow going on a flat rock, but I'll be digging the next couple days. I have found lots of stuff but too tired to take pics.

Minor point - the AQ was not shown “in Russia”. It was shown to some Fisher dealers/distributors at a huge trade fair in Nuremberg in Germany

Intersting to watch thier release / marketing strategy. The few vids Ive seen so far appear to be very promising! Im trying to put my inner Fisher fan boy aside and see it objectively :laughing7: Initial thoughts were a bit hmmmm....until I saw the vids. Cant wait to see more and watch developments.

You came here to Coronado and didn't contact me? You naughty boy!:laughing7: Coronado is an easy beach to hunt. Very little black sand. I could have taken you to some beaches with more challenging conditions.

My bad cudamark. Between sunset happy hours with the missus and a bit of detecting - 2 days passed in a flash.
