What a great collection of finds on this site! Spent a day looking at them. We are researching a battle site of 4th Cavalry and the Comanche. Found several hundred artifacts (mostly casings, slugs).

Here's my best

Been cleaned now and we determined to have been manufactured 150 years old last month (March 1864) and was "condemned" for some reason and never went to military. The round ball ammo and other information indicates it ended in up in Comanche hands.

Kewl pistol. Cant believe its still loaded. Later Clyde

Congrats on a great find! The fact that it can be traced to the use by the Commanche, shows all too well that Gun Runners were all to prevalent even back then and would sell to anyone, if there was a good profit in it. Also, since this revolver and many others were rejected by the Military, they often fell into the hands of some real unsavory characters who would purchase or arrange a purchase of rejected arms from Colt in bulk at cents on the dollar.

Wow! Finding a pistol has been on my bucket list for as long as I can remember.

First time I recall seeing one with the rounds still in the revolver. Incredibly cool piece! Thanks for sharing.
