Hello, I've had this for many years. I found it in a box of stuff I bought from a garage sale back in the early 80's. I'm not a collector, but it's always fascinated me.

1.4 Kg

Slightly magnetic.

I thought maybe it was a meteorite, or maybe a really heavy buffalo chip :)

The pink stuff on there is just old candle wax---when I was a kid, I used it for a candle holder.

Any help in identifying is greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

I noticed this was your very first post - so, Welcome Aboard MPhinct! You didn't list your state (or country) in your profile. So, you might consider jumping over to Sub-Forum: Select Your Area.... for information (i.e., clubs, hunts, finds, legends, maps, etc.) directly related to your state (or country).

Not a meteorite. Appears to be a flowstone. Possibly just a pocket in a layered stone. Because you say it is slightly attracted to a magnet, I am dismissing the possibility of petrified wood. Exact type of stone based solely on the images provided may prove difficult, but members here should be able to eliminate some stone types.

Time for more coffee.

Interesting, thanks! I guess the magnetic properties rules out my buffalo chip theory too.

Looks like mud or lode stone from shale bed to me... which is rich in iron oxide ;)
