Ok so found what looked to be chlorargyrite when clearing rocks out of my compost. So I start looking at silver deposits in south central, PA. This happened to lead me to gold in PA. I come to find out that the area I have my compost at is a richer non-glacial placer gold 'zone.' I researched geological reports from the late 1800's to recent day. I went over multiple topo-maps, trying to get a feel for the area. Well, the first basic test stop yielded black sand not even 3in under the soil with a depth of about 3-4in along the river bank. The spot wasn't even at a catch point, I guess I just got over zealous to see it. I dug up about 2 cubic feet and took it home to start processing. I don't have a gold pan (I do have a large planting bowl I've been using) so for the most part I'm just cleaning and trying to classify. I went back today to snatch some samples from catch spots and to scout around for any bedrock. I found the 'rock' in the picture in a small catch hole. It indented from my finger nail with some decent pressure. I would like to get an assessment on if this is legit, and where to go from here. I'm a little overwhelmed, I've been saving all the black sands and washing the gravel and saving it. I'm trying to snatch visible flakes and pickers, but I'm completely new to this and beyond broke. I apologize if this is in the wrongish forum (technically this is today's find, but as you can read I'm in a little over my head.) Ok so the pictures not uploading, so a description will have to do for right now. It's a bright yellow, soft enough to indent with thumbnail and decent force, approx 1cm x .5cm x.5cm. Thank you all for your time and I appreciate any and all help/advice.

P.S. I am also looking for possible exp'd partners to help show the ropes and share the wealth.

Goldsniffer, sorry I can't help you, but good luck. You might consider the abandoned village of "Gold Mine" in Lebanon County. Supposedly, there was a gold mining operation there, hence the name of the village. More research is needed though. ...............Rich

Oh, and there's gold forums here at t-net which will be helpful too. Have fun! Andi
