Whites DFX (with 4x6 shooter DD coil and 12" spider coil), Minelab Rocco 2700. (E-Trac)
Primary Interest:

These items were found in a field with several buttons that date back to the revolutionary war. Can anyone identify what kind of buckle this is or what the item on the lower left is? Quarter for size comparison.

These items are from the same field. Any ideas? The wedge shaped object is made of lead (upper right). These items are pretty small also (sorry no coin for comparison) the lead wedge is about 1 3/4 inches long.

Looks like rusted up square nail , upper left, pewter spoon, (cool find), lead looks like a home made sinker, is that a hole thru the end of it ?
Yer piece o' brass in 1st pic...let me know if you find out, i've got a few jist like it.

Lower right object in pic #2 - musket hammer? I'm no expert, but if it is a hammer, looks more like Civil War than Revolutionary War. Could the field be a Civil War camp site?

I hunt a small field near my house that has produced Civil War objects as well as earlier buttons. Also found arrowheads. It must have been a popular spot to camp for MANY years.

The buckle is of modern construction & not much older than 100 years.

I checked. There was not any civil war activity in this area. The item is not heavy or solid enough to be a hammer so I tend to agree with Jim West Pa that it may be a spoon of some sort. The other item is definately a jew harp. I got a revolutionary war artifact book yesterday and have been thumbing through it. I cant seem to find anything about the other items in there.

Gotta tell ya, you got a great eye for stuff not to have thrown that in ur trash pile.

Looking at those things....and my eyes sometimes...Might have been quite the loss for me.
Way to go.

Yes Jim. The lead object has a hole in it. I'm sure you're right. It's a sinker.

I've been doing some research myself on this one also. I actually got a book about Revolutionary war artifacts and found a great picture that describes and illustrates some of the typical things that were carried in colonial era hunting bags. In the picture, you see the Jew harp, an object that is probably the spoon in my picture, and what is referred to as a piece of trade lead. (in between the spoon and the bullet mold) that seems to match the lead sinker type item in my picture. Just wanted to keep everyone updated.

I'm guessing some sort of suspender buckle, a jews harp (for sure) and the lower picture, in the top middle may be a spoon and it may be what is called a 'reused soup bowl spoon'. They used to take the spoons and reuse them. Sometimes they would drill tiny holes in them as decorations. Look for any tiny drill marks on it. They used them during the time of the Rev War. This one is probably pewter and very brittle.

Here is one I found in my town. It is almost a twin to the ones that are displayed in my Rev War reference book. Note the tiny hole drilled at the tip of the spoon, on the handle and also how it broke at a spot where it was originally drilled. Old pewter spoons are really cool to find.

Often the pewter spoon used to brake at the point shown. I think they drilled the hole to repair a handle (maybe wooden or bone etc) back on to the stem.
