Ring marking?

Anyone know what the marking inside a ring I found mean? They are: 12K on STL here are some pics of the ring.

It means that the item is plated in such a way that gold makes up at least 1/20th of the total weight of the item. So, it's gold plated, With a STL base No idea what STL is though ........Hope this helps

STL is Stainless Steel .Being a Machinist we always called it SS,you learn something new everyday

Were they using stainless for jewelry in the 50's or so?

If the marking is literally 12K on STL then I suggest it means 12 carat Gold plate on Sterling Silver.

Thanks Mike. Yep that is the exact inscription. I'm thinking from the style, the ring is from the 40's or 50's. what do you think?
