Always have a great time hunting the Central Coast especially San Simeon Pier. The bear was found twice because I left it on the railing after showing it to a Ranger. When we got back to our hotel that night I realized the bear was missing! We thought about it all night and decided to drive back first thing in the morning to look for it. I detected the sand area all around where we had parked and the spot where I had talked with the ranger. That's when I noticed it still sitting on the railing where I left it. After showing the Ranger the bear I showed her the ring and must have just put it on the railing and forgot it. After all the people that walked by it and then spending the night I couldn't believe it was still there in the morning.
The bear is brass and has lettering that says not transferable and the the word game on the right upper corner. Have not been able to find much on it yet.

The Ring Of Fire was found down in the wet gravel. Other finds included a partial Arrow Head, no date Buffalo Nickel and some great sea glass, Jefferson Nickel embedded in iron and pieces of pottery. The ceramic pieces are dated Pat Feb. 3 1920 some kind of electrical stuff?

Good Luck Out There............

Your bear is, I believe, a license plate topper. May be from a California auto club (like AAA), or California based auto insurance.
National parks used to have similar souvenir items, but being non-transferable that doesn't seem to make sense. Unless I suppose purchasing one gave an admission discount...

I think the bear is a JELLY STONE CAMPGROUND license plate attachment. Congrats on some nice finds.

Ben was right. This is a license plate topper circa 1916 it is made out of lead. This one appears to be a Fish & Game plate topper. Found one that sold on Etsy a few years ago. The non-transferable does make sense because they were issued with a number that corresponded with a porcelain license plate. I have no idea how this ended up 12" down in the black sand @ San Simeon.

Good Job Ben.......
