River Fog, Bear Scat, & Armadillo bones

If that doesn't get your attention, I don't know what will. :P
I drove the roads day before yesterday, rainy, foggy, day, then the :icon_sunny: came out, & I walked the mts & River bottoms for two more days.
I saw 'Bear Scat' & Armadillo bones in the Mts, a friend thinks I needed a bigger rifle, so he traded me a 270 Remington, so I would have more protection on my walks.
I found Indian worked flint, old stove part, etc.....

That 3rd picture looks like a tree we have here in Texas called a cedar elm, these trees always make bowels or openings on them that look like urinals to me.

We seem to have a lot of these type around, not sure if they are the same.

Cool pics, Fossis. The wildlife people used to always tell us we didn't have bears or mountain lions in Oklahoma, but we always knew better. Armadillos are pretty cool. Their natural enemy is highway traffic. They give birth to quadruplets. I know folks who eat them (possum on the half shell), but they're also known to carry leprosy. We used to try to catch them, and they're way more faster than they look. They don't see real good, but they'll jump straight up, zig and zag, and you can't pull them out of a hole. I'd like to bring some up here to the mountains for the novelty, but it wouldn't be right as the winter would kill them.

Thanks, yeah we know better about the Bears & Cats, I saw cat tracks, hair, even in the 1950's, & since a few years ago when I heard the 'dillo's' carry a 'rare form of leprosy', I don't even touch them, their holes are a hazard sometimes, when the abandoned ones fill with leaves & you sink in to your knees.
They are so strong, & can dig a hole in a matter of seconds.
After a prolonged 'icy storm', I have seen them come out of their holes with their hip bones showing, they were so hungry.

Hah! I was scrolling down through the pics, and came to the one of your hand, for a second I thought, OMG, he's not holding the scat?!? Thankfully no. :D Beautiful pictures as always fossis. You have a good eye for nature's beauty. The armadillas are thick up here, almost a nuisance. The first time I saw how high they can jump and how quick they can really move, I was surprised. I thought for a long time I was finding all kinds of dens, but they are mostly 'dilla holes. Don't know if they upset the balance of things too much, but they are sure increasing in number. does anything eat them? Animal wise, not people, yuck!

Thanks, the armadillo's are a 'nuisance' about everywhere, they dig holes in meadows & pastures, lawns, etc....
coyotes & mountain lions & dogs probably eat them, once the soft underbelly is exposed they are easily killed.
I saw a den that had been dug out by coyotes, & the dillo was eaten, & yes some people eat them, did you see the part where they were buying them in San Francisco before they stopped buying them. :tongue3:

Great pics Fossis. I see you brought out the heavy artillery. :D

RGINN, I was told by an old cajun once that if you catch the armadillo going in his hole just stick a cigarette to his other hole and he will come right out. ;D

Thanks, yeah my buddy was worried that I needed 'bigger & better' artillery.
I am sure the cigarette would work if he didn't get all the way hid, I pulled one's tail off trying to get him out.
