These were released in southeastern Iowa years ago. This week I saw one dead on highway shoulder. I’m assuming roadkill. There is a creek nearby. 1st otter I’ve seen dead on a highway. Kinda sad; but nature works that way

That’s a shame, Blackfoot58. This one was herding fish in a pond at a local wildlife area near me when I first saw it. Surfacing and diving like a whale or porpoise does. To my surprise , it swam up to the log that you can see just under the water and checked me out For a couple minutes. This is the second time I have seen otters at this location. We have a river just a few hundred yards away from this pond so it may have come from there.

I’ve had them snort at me. The pop up and down in the lake, look like a game of Whack A Mole! Fun to watch if you are lucky enough to see it.

That is a great picture :)

I see them often here in Florida killed on highways. Most major roads have a canal or ditch along them on both sides filled with fish. Otters live in them and cross the roads. Unfortunately they get hit once in awhile.
