I tried the baking soda. Foil, and boiling water method to clean up the 1834 half. It did not help at all. So i put it in the rock tumbler for a half hour with water and a half ounce of white vinegar. It cleaned up pretty good. Here are before and after pics.

It probably didn't have much numismatic value anyway.
