Roll Call Thread (Jan 2017 Edition)

Well, it's been a number of years since we have done a Roll Call Thread. I thought it would be kind of fun to see how many people are still CRH. The hay day was in 2011 and 2012, but let's see who is still doing this great hobby.

I'll start with how long I have been CRH, what denomination, and the location where I CRH.

I started collecting coins in the 70's, but didn't really get into CRH until 2010. I generally do boxes of half dollars and am from the great state and frozen tundra of Minnesota.

List how long you have been CRH, the denomination, and the state/region.

This should be a lot of fun.

I started CRH in the summer of 2015. I have only ever done nickels, halves, pennies and dimes (in order from most to least hunting time). I'm located in Michigan and move around quite a bit so the region is pretty much the whole state. I like this idea! HH everyone.

Ive had an interest for the last 10 yrs but took off Sept 2015.. I mostly look for halves and will get a brick of dimes once or twice a month. Live in a border town on NC side and will visit SC at times..

I first bought a few rolls back in 1970 or thereabouts, pennies and nickels mostly . I was a teenager living in Helena , Montana at that time . I sort of fell away from CRH until I got into metal detecting around 2008 . I'm pretty well hooked now ! I will always give it a go if I have ready cash, and I really enjoy CRH on road trips out of my regular stompin grounds !

I'm located in Wisconsin. I'm 21, and I've been CRH for about two years now.

I got into it because I enjoy collecting coins and I saw an opportunity to expand my collection whilst keeping my costs down.

I search halves/pennies/nickels on and off, but dimes are my go-to. I've found more than 300 silver dimes - with the oldest being minted in 1906. My best dime box had 80 silver dimes, and my best halves box had 6 silver pieces.

Coolest error - 1976 flip-over double-struck nickel.

Only been CRH for about 5 months. I do it because I would love to find old coins. I also do this when I'm not metal detecting in the Mich winters

I hunt halves (only 6 boxes so far and found nothing in a box). I like searching nickles and penny's. I waiting to find my first IHP and V Nickle. I like looking for Errors in penny's too

Started coin collecting in the mid 1960's. Stopped after I went into the army (1970) & didn't start crh until Dec 2010. I crh half dollars only. I estimate I've done over a million coins since I started in 2010, Am from downstate New York.

I have been coin collecting since the late 80s - started my collection with cents and nickels found in circulation back then. When I was in middle school I would ride my bike into town with $10-15 in my pocket and search as much as I could in a couple hours from the banks downtown. War nickels were my favorite finds back then, and were easy to find.

I went many years without hunting until 2011 when silver prices went thru the roof - that's when I discovered TNet and I stated hitting half dollar boxes hard. That's mainly what I search, though I will do some dimes, nicks, and pennies when I can't get halves.

Some of my funnest finds have been a '72 dbl die Lincoln, 1867 Indian, 1921S Buffalo, 1892 Columbian half, and lots of Walkers and Bens. I don't stack silver anymore - I sell it & use the money to buy PCGS certified Morgans. I have been able to get several nice key dates, including a '93S, 94, and 95S, among others, all with CRHing proceeds.

I live & hunt in Las Vegas.

Another Michigander here. A few years ago I was getting two boxes of halves a week, but quit doing them when my dump bank (credit union) got rid of their change machine. Re-rolling is just too much of a pain for me, I got other hobbies I'd rather spend time on.

I still get a few rolls of nickels every week, just trying to fill the album my dad started many years ago, still have five coins to go.

A few years back my (not then) ex bought me some half rolls from the local bank, one of them had, instead of halves, all English pennies from the mid-1800's or so. To me those were worth more than any silly clad halves.

I used to roll hunt cents back in the seventies. As a young person I would get $10 worth of cents from the bank every now and then. One time I got six solid rolls of wheaties which I thought was cool. I also have three rolls of brand new 1977 cents which I put in plastic tubes back then.

Been CRH'ing on and off since I was kid in the early to mid '80s. Back then I would get my parents to get me $10 worth of cents to pick through and pick out a few wheats. Always been in MN. Grew up in northern MN and now in the Twin Cities area.

In college (early to mid-90s), I started going to the local casinos and pick through the nickels as I played. Found a few buffalos, war nickels and even a V nickel or two. I even remember trying a half dollar machine one time and getting 2 - 40% from $20.

During and after college, the bank I had accounts at was not CRH friendly (tried to charge roll fees almost anytime I asked for even 2 rolls), so I didn't get many coins other than searching nickels and occasionally quarters at the local casinos extremely late at night when they weren't too busy. I moved around 2003. When I moved, I switched banks and found my new bank was much more CRH friendly and let me buy boxes of coins. At that point, I really got into CRH'ing heavy for a 10 years or so. I started mainly doing cents and nickels, but eventually expanded to doing all denominations (except small dollars). Even made road trips to most of the area within 2-3 hours of my house. Usually searching for half dollars during road trips, but I would pick up bags of other denominations as well when they would sell them. Almost all of my searches were posted from when I joined this forum in late 2006 until I shortly before I stopped searching.

About 3 years ago, after sorting through millions of coins, I found a way back into my other hobby, sports card collecting. I have been buying collections when I find them at a good price ever since. Although I have thought about getting a bag or two coins off and on, there is only so much time in the day. Some day maybe I'll get back to it, but for now I am busy elsewhere other than reading and occasionally replying to posts on here.

When I stopped I was getting close to finishing finding the wheat cent set from circulation (missing 12). I finished two set of the Jeffersons (at least from 1938-1959) and was some additional 1950-D coins from finishing a couple more. Plenty of other sets started and partially completed, but not going to list them all here...again as I have posted those details in the past.

I started hunting about 7ish years ago, I use to do all denominations of coins years ago but only do halves now. Still here and always will be even though I do take slight leaves of absences from T net I'll always be around! HH, Maverick.

I'm still around but only CRH a few coins here and there. I'm no longer ordering boxes. Back in the day, I was processing about 8 to 10 boxes of halves, 2 dimes, 2 nickels, and 2 cents every week. Best find was 200+ Franklin's in a box. 300+ 40%ers in a box. My most valuable coin found is a Kennedy 1988 rotated die. Oldest find was a 1864 IH.

I'm sure I'll get back in the saddle some day. Right now, I'm super busy being a dad.

I have always searched change in my pocket, but when the concept of ordering boxes at the bank sunk in I had to try. That was 4 years ago. I do any coin but quarters. I search along the I-5 corridor in the northwest.
