After finishing the Barley Stubble site, it was time to return to the Mansio Site. I gridded alone for 4.5 hours in an area that has a low density of coins but still needs covering. I easily dug the most Roman Nails for a 1 day hunt. (I only pictured about 30% of them.)

The most complete iron locking mechanism that I have found. Probably Roman but you can't rule out medieval.

Celtic Bronze Unit (Coin) - Not very pretty but a scarce find not the less.

Just adding to the theory of multiple buildings on this site - Th jigsaw /puzzle is slowly coming together !

Still not a bad day out, but that's a lot of gridding.
I've given up on any hope of nails rusting away.:)

When we started this site we only cleared the really big nails, but as the years go on & the better signals get scarce we clear as much as we can. It helps us assess how much material is coming up with each plough. If we start to find it hard to find a tiny piece of lead or a small nail then it's time to move on. Plus small coins next to multiple nails are hard for Dads machine to hear.
