We scouted this site some time back & got 10 Roman Coins & 1 was a large one, so it made me think that it was worth gridding again. I spent 5 hours & Dad helped for 3 hours & it started off pretty slow but it ended up being OK:

17 Roman Coins
Large Roman Nail (chucked away loads of small ones)
Half of a Roman Steel Firestarter
Lots of Pottery...

This results means we will continue to grid & hope for something a little better....:metaldetector:

Yes, it had a mirror image piece broken off. Here is a similar repro 'C' type fire steel:
Shark Design
They were bashed against flint to make a spark.

AWESOME WORK! I KNOW THAT YOU DID RESEARCH TO FIND THE SPOT AND THAT'S WORK. HAVE YOU BEEN ABLE TO DATE THE SITE?
IF I'M NOT COLORING OUTSIDE THE LINES, I WOULD REALLY LIKE TO KNOW "ROUGHLY" WHERE WAS THE SITE. THAT NAIL, IN MY HUMBLE OPINION, WAS THE BEST OF THE FINDS. IT PUT A KNOT IN MY GUT WHEN I FIRST SAW IT.

YOU HAVE A NEW FAN.

This general area was settled by the Iron Age people (Celtic), hard to say when exactly but sometime BC. Also hard to be sure when it was established as a Roman Site but the coinage & pottery would point to the 2nd C AD. The site is in a ploughed field not far from a major Roman Road.

The fire starter is my fave, but you got lots of different roman pottery too. :icon_thumleft:

THANK YOU, CRUSADER. I WANT TO SHARE THIS INFO WITH MY CHURCH FAMILY. KNOWING THE "CIRCA" DATE WILL BE A SPECIAL BLESSING FOR THEM.
I KNOW THAT IT HAS BEEN ONE FOR ME.

MANY FOLKS DON'T UNDERSTAND HOW CLOSE WE WALK TO OUR HISTORY, NOR DO THEY UNDERSTAND ITS IMPORTANCE TO THE WORLD.
THANKS FOR FINDING AND SHARING IT WITH US.

MIKEL

I SHARED THE PHOTO WITH. OUR PREACHER AND HE DIDN'T GET WHAT HE WAS LOOKING AT. I HAD TO POINT IT OUT...

CRUSADER THE RELIC RAIDER, IS THAT A FLINT STRYKER IN THE ONE PHOTO, DAG GONE COINS A REAL NICE,VANZUTPHEN

Glad to see you're getting back into some pottery. Were they just eyeballed surface finds or did you do any serious digging? And great job on the coins. That one in the lower middle has an incredible image and detail. Can you provide more info on that one?

This is ploughed up finds, from a very old post that was dragged back up.
