Mark and I hit a site that was a old store along a wagon road. Site dates to the 1850-70's

Found a couple seated dimes

a very cool National Guard of California Button!!

and a crazy Roman (ancient counterfeit) that dates 79BC -- in CA !!

Our theory is that the sore sold some of these as souvenirs to travelers or someone simply lost a keepsake. Strange what can turn up!

What makes you say it's a counterfeit :icon_scratch: unusual find

I find it interesting that all the finds you posted have design symbolism that is derivative from Ancient Motifs !

Nice finds! Maybe a Roman was abducted by Aliens and when they returned him to Earth they dropped him in California. Another piece of evidence for that nonsense "documentary" Ancient Aliens on the History Channel (what a disgrace to History enthusiasts). :laughing7:

LOVE THE BUTTON AND COIN , BUT STILL PUZZLED BY THE CELTIC COIN . I AM NO EXPERT BUT IS IT REALLY A COUNTERFEIT COPY. HMMMMMMMMMMMMM.

Sweet finds again. Ya just never know, Might have been someones "pocket" piece!!!!

Nice editing job on the video  Enjoyable to watch. And nice finds!

LOVE THE BUTTON AND COIN , BUT STILL PUZZLED BY THE CELTIC COIN . I AM NO EXPERT BUT IS IT REALLY A COUNTERFEIT COPY. HMMMMMMMMMMMMM.

I was told on a Ancient Coin Forum that it was more than likely a silver plated counterfeit of a silver denarius. So it would still date 79 bc - just a 79 bc counterfeit !! Real or counterfeit--it is still a really great find and still a 79 bc "coin" found in CA !! LOL

I also am not an expert so I was just relaying what I was told about the coin. Fun to find regardless!!

Hi Ron,

Your welcome.

I usually skip over people videos because they are also time consuming to watch and most are pretty raw. Additionally you did what most don't do and that's also post pics of your finds  Worst thing is watching 10 minutes of raw footage to see a guy find a Merc, Roosevelt dime, and a couple Wheaties :laughing7:

But you did all the right things with the intro, music, and nice editing, plus the finds were interesting. I hope more follow your example--especially by also posting pics of their finds separately to go along with the video.

Looking forward to your next one!

Thanks Erik - videos can get time consuming so I appreciate the comments!

I agree, it seems to be a contemporary counterfeit.

I think it's hard for most of us to realize that coin collecting is not a new hobby - it's been around for quite a long time actually ,
this coin find -( unusual though it is) is not the first Ancient coin to be dug out of century or older American sites - I recall a
few of them .

Interesting, Congrats!
