Rookie seeking help!!!! What is it ?????

Hello there! I found this whilst metal detecting in a field in Eastern Ontario, Canada. I found it at a depth of approx. 9 inches. I know the field was used for farming a long time ago. Could this be some kind of hitch for some horse-drawn farm equipment? The one side of the loop part is pretty worn compared to the other side.... It's approx. 1 foot long and pretty heavy. Any feedback is greatly appreciated !!!!!
