Hello! I am just wondering when they stopped making rose head nails. The oldest addition of my house and second oldest addition both use them on the exposed beams. I'm just wondering when those nails were first made and when the stopped making them. Any ideas?

Not sure what the rose head nails look like, but i do know that if is a square head, it mamas it pre 1890. I do believe

Square head and square shaft makes it even older

These nails have crude rounded square shaped head with a hand-done rose head. The shaft is square and narrow towards the top of the nails, then widens a little bit maintaining it's width until to bottom. Square shaft the whole way. I am going to take some photos in a few hours, I will have them up by tonight. There are a few rose head nails visible, along with tons of regular machine made square nails. Some of the rose head nails have a more square or round head than the others.

I have photos on my phone but my phone is dead. The heads look almost exactly like this, with 4 ridges meeting in the center.

Most rose head nails are 18th century.

Actually the one I photographed was a three ridged one. I think that they may have all been three ridged, though I am not sure.
