Well it looks like gold and it cleans up like gold. I have found my share of religious medals, most junky Metal, some silver and a couple of gold ones so when this one came out of the ground I thought I had a goody. Unfortunately it is only plated. When I flipped it over no gold was showing, it was just brass.
I was on campus again today and had a good day. I was there Friday and dug a pile of clad, 198 coins with a face value of $17.49 but nothing interesting. Today in 5 hours I managed 150 coins with a face value of $11.76, a .69 cal round ball (quite possibly civil war as there were a lot of troops here and you can find cw bullets everywhere), the miraculous medal, a Key Safe tag, and a nice rope style Italian silver chain with 3 and 1 pedants and a silver bead. The 31 might stand for a football players number as the field I found it on is used by a lot of pee wee football teams.
A fun day with clad and goodies. When you swing that detector you never know what will come out of the ground. Today luck was on my side.
Thanks for looking and may your coil lead you to good things.
