Round ball?

Clean it up a bit, see if there any cloth patch impressions as it looks fired if it is a roundball.

I forgot to put in there, that it is pretty hefty for its size.

It certainly looks like a round ball deformed by impact upon being fired. If it is made from lead, then I would think that seals the deal. You can try getting some calipers on it and averaging several measurements. Considering you are located in Massachussetts, there are probably millions of musketballs in the ground there.
