Hi there - I am trying to find out more about this mortar shell.
It was recently dredged up from the sea near to Portsmouth in Hampshire, UK. Initially it was thought to be a cannon ball, but after being immersed in freshwater it became clear it was actually a hollow shell with a large fuse hole and another smaller and shallower indentation on the other side.
It also has the wide arrow mark which I think denotes it was British military. Does anyone know what date it is likely to come from and any more information about it?
It weighs 6 lbs and has a diameter of 14 inches.
