Not sure if I've got it id'd correctly. Seems out of place in Southern Michigan if so, wouldn't you think?

Any folks wise in the button department? It's 17-18mm in diameter.

Yes indeedy. Good find. It’s a Victorian British Royal Navy Officer’s coat button. The roped edge distinguishes it as an officer’s button… other ranks had a plain band. The Merchant Navy adopted the same fouled anchor emblem in 1812, leading to a crown being added above it as a means of distinguishing Royal Navy from Merchant Navy. The crown is the style used during Victoria’s reign, until 1901.

The “Wilson” backmark is for Albert Charles Wilson of 15 Fish Street Hill in London. Dates for the company are uncertain, but they were listed in the London Post Office Directory of 1891 at that address.

Wilson.webp

Seems to have been a short-lived company. There are mercantile uniform buttons with their backmark that are believed to date between 1894-1896
