Hello!
After work yesterday I went detecting downtown near the University of Oregon, and I dug two 1961-D Washington quarters together in the same hole! . . .. After looking at the quarters under a magnifing glass I noticed that one of the 1961-D Quarter is a die variety error~ repunched mint mark! D over D. You can see a light D just to the north of the main D. This is a known variety ~ listed as 1961-D 25c RPM #2 D/D North (see pic from John Wexler's THE RPM BOOK).
This is only the 2rd time in 20 years of metal detecting that I've discovered a die variety on a coin I dug!
Thanks for looking!
Neil
