RR lock

My buddy found this lock on a permission of his yesterday and asked if I could post it to see if I could get any info on it. Its a cb&q. Just wondering age and possible value. Thanks!

Nice find. Looking at a few that either sold or didn't sell, it looks like a run of the mill one of these can be found for as little as $10.

Chicago, Burlington and Quincy RR general purpose lock.
It should also have letters and numbers on the shackle.
The company lasted from 1849 to 1970.

One of those times when not common doesn't equal alot of value. Still, not everyone finds a RR lock. Tell him to conserve it and hang it on the wall. Don't let him out do you, find one worth thousands.....they exist.
