I used to live in the are, about forty miles away for a dew years. There are silver mines in the mountains to the South of Rupert, Idaho area (Neveda is only 60 miles away). Also about 70 miles to the North, you have the Stanley, ID area; also mining in the area. Go East 100 miles, and you have Idaho Falls, ID and a bit farther Jackson, WY; mines in that area as well.

There used to be a lot of miners in the area up to about the 1970's, then most anyone left did ranching and farming. My uncle lived about five miles from Rupert, he was a miner when he was younger, then when the mines closed he turned to sugar beet farming.
