Rusty Buttons

Can anyone give me tips for removing rust from vintage buttons? I've noticed posts that use vinegar, but wanted to ask my fellow tners first.

Vinegar is a mild acid and will leave your buttons pink, same with coins. I use GO-JO which is non-acidic. Slow acting, takes off
the grime a little at a time. Will not discolor unless you leave it soaking too long. Some swear by peroxide but I haven't tried it.
Also the fiber brushes for rotary tools will not damage finds and speeds up the cleaning.
