Found these two sabots in Louisiana along with case shot. Are they Parrotts? Found about a dozen really large shot along with normal size. Is it unusual to have shot this large? Was found where the Yankee gunboats fought with Confederates along a river side.

Looks like Army-model Parrott sabots. To be any more specific than that, I need diameter measurement of the iron body and the brass ring (the one that's not bent out of shape). Also need a "sideview" photo to confirm the Army-model ID. If they were fired from a US Navy gunboat in Louisiana, they are probably 4.2-inch caliber, also called "Thirty Pounder" caliber.

The "about .69-caliber" lead balls are case-shot (antipersonnel) balls from the exploded shells. The larger lead balls are from US Navy Canister-ammo.

The bottom of the sabot is 4 inches and the iron is 4.25 inches

Thanks for the info and additional photo. As I suspected, the shell ID is a 4.2"-caliber ("30 Pounder") Parrott, with Army-model brass sabot.
