✅ SOLVED Sabot off an artillery shell?

I found this today in Murfreesboro, TN a few houses down from where I have found Civil War eagle buttons and quite a few bullets. This is lead and has grooves going down one side and the back part looks like it's been heated or flame or something of that nature. Any ideas what exactly this may be? Thanks for looking.

I think you may have a piece of sabot. The top, left photo looks very much like it.
