My first sail plain/glider flight. Can't explain it.

I understand that it can be quite peaceful and quiet while your up there soaring. Especially when you have some good updrafts.

Not really. Air noise is loud but maybe different for other designs. And an updraft is more like a bubble. Like boiling water where the bubble forms on the bottom and rises. When the bubble reaches the plane it can be heard and felt, like an impact which it is.
Just that much more fun.
We were under cumulus clouds and that might have added to a more aggressive bubbles. The air coming down from the cloud was very cold. I don't know. I guess I need to go again.
 
Still sounds like an exhilarating and fun thing to do.
 
In New Mexico there is an airport that is known by sailplane pilots as one of the best for thermals. Moriarty NM Altitude is over 7000' if I remember.
From what's said the thermals and weather are very dependable.
