Same site - now with a "Cutting Edge"
Went back to the same site again and worked the 1940's-1960's area for a while. (Got tired of all the scratches and nicks I get working the older areas as the thorns and bushes were tearing me up!) I got a good signal and out pops a brass handle. Hmmm. Wonder what that was used for? Next I get another couple signals close to each other and I dig the remaining two pieces to what turns out to be a 1950's Gillette safety razor! Sweet! I have been wanting to get one of these for a while and have been using shaving soap and brush for over a year, just needed to save up to purchase a good vintage model - now one pops into my hands while out hunting. LOL It's going to take some TLC to get it in shape and make sure it's all disinfected but it's in good working order. Friend of mine who restores these assured me that this one will be okay to use once I get it all cleaned up.
Other than that I didn't have much luck with the coins or silver/gold but the weekend is just starting. Found a 1955 D wheat penny and a handful of clad from the 1960's. Always lots of square nails too - LOL! I did find this one weird item. At first I thought it was just rusty junk (probably is anyway -
) but as I examined it, I noticed it was in the shape of a man wearing a hat and coat. I can just make out his arms crossing in front of him and meeting down towards a staff or sword. The hat has a big feather in it and his coat goes all the way to his feet - and it looks like he's got a bag slung on his side. The facial features are hard to make out but it looks like he's got a big nose and beard. Perhaps this was a decorative end of a fireplace poker or something? No idea on this end
Just thought it was interesting. (Posted it in the What Is It? Forum section) Broken skeleton key, Hazel-Atlas cream jar and a small bottle with a metal cap stamped with "Roche" on it.
I'm going to head back out there and do an "all day" hunt in hopes of finding some more silver or gold - but I'll be more than satisfied with anything interesting.
Hope everyone here has a great weekend and brings home the goods!!
