Sand Scoop Question

Has anyone used the SITO or White's version HexScoop (made by SITO) Sand Scoop! I was looking at the medium sized one to try and save some weight.
Let me know what your thoughts are on these scoops. Thanks!

I have the larger size 10mm hex hole from Coob. It has the welded on stainless handle. I like that feature. It is big and when full of wetsand it is very heavy. Maybe the medium size is best. PS, I meant the stub handle by the basket. I have a wood handle.

I think they are great! Hole size is good, strong, can’t complain. I have seen smaller holes but I like this size. No cracks.

Thanks Steve! I have a small Coob “Scout” scoop that I put on a carbon fiber handle with a foam grip. When I scoop sand with this tiny scoop the sand just falls back into the hole lol!
So I was looking at the medium size Whites Hexscoop at about 6 1/2” wide. They are made by Sito.

You are welcome. Just letting you know how I like that style. Mine is 8 or 9 inches wide and 12 inches long. Big one!

I am sorry to say it but gold sinks to a hard bottom: rocks, clay etc.

When you are hitting that "bottom" you want a wide scrape. With this knife bottom you have to dig into the clay 3 inches before you have enough width to hit your target.

This is the problem you run into when the designer is not a hunter

There are other problems with this design but I have said enough.

Good solid scoop. Some places in Florida this scoop performs well. The downside for me was pointy tip , if you're poor at pinpointing you will damage some items.
I'm not trashing the product . There are some places where this is my preferred scoop.ymmv

Um... these are designed by a "hunter" so... you speak of what you do not know.

They are and have been used and tested for years by some of the best detectorists ...

In fact... if you were familiar with physics of a scoop... due to its design it is FAR superior to any scoop made ... especially "wide" mouth scoops.

Maybe after mastering your target local better you may be able to step up to a more precisely engendered scoop.

So...

In other words... These are made by an experienced serious detectorist AND used by the same.

PS... the Nuttall scoop has been raved about on this site for years and years with ONLY good / great results and reviews.

This scoop slices in pack like butter.... through rocks ... shell ... and asphalt if you wanted. heh

If your in the SAND and not water get one with a D handle tie a rope to it and drag it behind you. It frees up your hands and also marks where you have already been

Its smaller footprint leaves smaller more manageable holes... and is an easier lift AND pull.

It is an easier to use all around scoop and is built tough enough to handle hard play.

Instead of pull push and pull though twice as mush material using twice as much energy you are only pulling range point.

BUT... Like I stated earlier... you must FIRST be well skilled at PP your objects... which to me is as easy as sleeping.

The only "drawback" to this scoop is... it can put a nice scar on an item if bigger than scoop OR your off target.

Anyway...

To each their own.

I would not even keep one of the strutted scoops if it was given to me for free.

I would pass it forward.

Personally I do not own a Nuttall scoop ... mine is custom ALL SS... my baby for eons... BUT IF I were to buy a scoop... That OR very similar would be my choice.

Thanks RC! That was what I was looking for. I didn't find the weight specs for the nuttall at web site.
