Santa's workshop turns out another one - Salesman display

Well with the weather here in NC being so hot, humid, and rainy, I decided to put my time to good use today.
It dawned on me that when I try to get permission to new (old) properties that all I had were pictures of some of my relics to show to the owners. What I didn't have with me was an actual display of relics. Duh! :tongue3:
I decided to put together a "salesman display" to use as eye candy and carry with me in the truck. I had a bunch of relics laying around, and I bought an "instant family" picture at the flea market to use.
All together I have one hours time and $20 invested in this display. I think the effort will pay for itself on getting future permissions.
*If this picture is of someones family out there, SORRY. ;D
Have a great week,
MM

And, that was one heck of a great decision, my good buddy from NC! You are a walking permission getter, who always impresses me with your ever-lasting kindness to your landowners!

I swear that guy, with the full set of hair in the back row, is Bob (Mirage). :D It sure looks like him.

You will definitely impress your future landowners. :notworthy:

Love that display. It's amazing how good some relics and junk can look when arranged like that. Thta should help open some new doors for sure. HH

Vg, I like that.

Re: Santa's workshop turns out another one - Salesman display

I'll give you $20 for it MM!!! Another great display from pre CW to late 1940s and 50s vintage. If that does not arouse a landowner or homeowner's interest, you won't get to detect anyway. Currently researching CW relic sites in Tennessee and securing permission for the fall. HH Bud.

Re: Santa's workshop turns out another one - Salesman display

Good work Doug! A well thought out idea for getting the go ahead. One question though when you show the property owner your display do you tell them you will make one for them of finds you find in their yard. How do you approach that?

Again good work MM.

Thanks Spartacus. I agree, the relics become a piece of art once put together.

VOL,
For you it's only $19. ;D
I'm hoping to finally detect with you & Dman this fall. No laughing at my low tech machine. :tongue3:

Thanks RR. I don't have the option of using good looks to gain permission so I have to resort to relic displays. :tongue3: ;D

Nova,
I approach it by saying, "IF you are interested, I can make you a relic display IF I am able to recover enough relics to do so."
Since we never know how many relics we will find or what they will be, you have to go with "if" instead of "I will" up front.
Some old places I've only been able to recover a few items even worthy enough to go into a display. In those cases, I offer them to the owner as-is. There are small Riker cases that can be bought for only like $3.00 that will hold a few relics. These come in handy too when you want to show your appreciation to the property owner. In most cases the property owners just want to see what you found and are not interested in taking the relics from you. At least not all of them. Of course, like anyone else, I am selective on what I am willing to give up.
If I have a spot that I continue to hit over & over, I make sure I make the owner a relic display whether they ask for one or not. For me it's the correct thing to do. You get a lot of enjoyment on their property and you only put out $20 to make a nice display.

Re: Santa's workshop turns out another one - Salesman display

Very very nice job. That is way cool stuff right there. That will surely get you into more places. I take some photos along with me, even taking my computer with all the downloaded Tnet photo's to secure a spot to hunt. It works really well. I have been denied only once...and he was a fellow detectorist who wanted to do his own yard. Nice job again. jgas
