Cru'dad has had 2 short solo outings, today & yesterday on the Site we call 'The Hill'. (4 1/4 hours total)
I wanted him to grid this area of the bottom slope, as I hoped he would get a Sceat. We had found 1 before in this general area & there were some signs of Middle Saxon artefacts including the strap-end he got yesterday. Sceat's are near impossible to target & 1 or so a year is all you can hope for, so this hunch worked out really good. Especially as I'm still recovering from my knee injury, & therefore we are down a man.

1 scrappy
Medieval Buckles
13th C Annular Brooch (not had many complete ones)
Saxon Strap-end 8-)
Crappy Hammered (maybe Lizzy I)

Nice assortment!

Whoohoo! Well done! The Sceat for this year... Congrats to Crudad for getting the coil over and to you for the idea where it hides!

What a beauty of a Sceat, great looking 13th C Annular Brooch also. :occasion14:
Big congrats to Cru'dad on the recoveries.
Agree on the one beat hammered-silver is silver

Although we would be more than happy with 1 Sceat a year, this is now our 2nd, meaning we have had 1 each. (Although mine above was rarer)

UPDATE:

This scarce coin is now recorded with the leading Authority & they commented as follows:

''An excellent example of Series E (variety G1), which I have recorded as EMC 2021.----. There are now 44 coins of this variety on EMC.''

Jep...that's a rare beauty!

Congrats on the top shelf find.
Not quite as pretty as the golden pony coins, but I'm sure s just as nice to find, and own.

Yeap, not as pretty but a much rarer find than the Celtic Gold.

UPDATE:

We are doing our yearly meeting with the landowner of this field on Monday & I have decided to give them this Sceat (I do have a slightly lesser example of this type of G1). This is to off-set some of the better coins I want to keep like the lovely Celtic Gold I had this year!

The Sceat is amazing and the buckles so represent everyday life that they are always a thrill to see

Hi, so are you the original Birdman? If so why now LowTide?
Yea birdman but I do much of my hunting at lowtide now here in Florida. Just something new. Not life crisis maybe lol
