I feel like a kid...all excited over my first indian artifact find here in Sumter, South Carolina. I was out for a hike when I came across this artifact laying right out in the open. I appears to have been revealed by a lot of water run-off from all the rain we recently had here. I found it in the woods next to a stump. Any idea what it is? Based on where I live (Stateburg, SC) I assume it was an artifact of the Wateree Indians (?). Is this called a point, a dart, an arrow head, a spear tip...???? I give up. It sure was fun to finally come across one after all these years in forests and fields. THanks in advance for any help...

I would call that point a Conerly, we find a lot of these over in Ga. They are a localized point in the central Savannah river area.

Welcome to Tnet. It was probably brought in or traded for, very early point. You live in a great place to find points, hit some fields when they start plowing. Tony

What a great find congrats

This might help.

Great help!

That is awesome! Thanks for the help... I'm excited about this and hope to find more. I don't know if this is a lost weapon or a camp site or what... I will have to check that location some more. I assume my find would fall into the same date range as what you have indicated. Thanks again... I would love to join up with other folks to search areas we can get permission to hunt!

I know this will reveal my ignorance but was is BP?

Nice one! B.P. Stands for before the present Era in contrast to B.C. Before the Christian Era.

How funny! I wasn't trying to be redundant just didn't have the last three posts on my screen yet.
